Treatment for the reality show ‘Reality shock’ - Lets mix it up
Genre:
Reality TV
Logline:
Let’s think of made in Chelsea, Vs Geordie shore, with t a little bit of switch – American life swap programme.
Synopsis:
A reality show where good meets bad and poor meets rich, we’ll be throwing in task and chores – yes ladies and gents, this is a reality shock.
Format:
We will be using a Nikon D3100, to shoot the 2 -3 minute preview of our programme. The production would be aired as an advert initially to give our target audience a taste of what our programme is based on and what it might be like. We would be showing the best parts of the show that we would have already pre filmed. This will engage them and hopefully encourage them to watch the show.
We will also be producing a 3 page fan site which will have all of the basic information of the show, who they can expect to see on the show (character list) the times and channel its appearing on and the initial start date of the show. The three page fan site will shoe our professionalism as a production company and the effort added to create the whole text.
We will also make a facebook and twitter page, for the show which may also be used a fan page so that the people that are tuning can keep up with the latest tasks or gossip going on in the house.
Estimated duration:
The duration of our programme is going to be 45 minutes. Within the 45 minutes there will be exactly 30 minutes of the reality show and three 5 minutes breaks during. The show will be aired on E4 on a Wednesday night at 8pm and on a Saturday night and 8pm. Theses specific time slots have been chosen initially because whilst some of the popular reality programmes are over for this season we shall take their place and ‘fill in the gap’ as it were.
Intended audience:
Our target audience seems to people that are ages 16 – 30 and are mostly women. Therefore with this evidence that was collated together from our primary research, we are aiming to attract more women of this specific age range. Our data also showed that there would be a high majority of students that watched our type of reality show there for we need to keep it appealing for the varied ages within our target audience.
Style:
We are aiming to create a humorous type of reality show, but also hard-hitting and something to take seriously as these situations do happen in the real word. We are getting influence from current and previous reality TV shows such as the only way is Essex and made in Chelsea, Geordie shore, switch and many more. We have take a couple of ideas from each to put into our reality show and the reason for this is because, these are the stereo typed type of things we do see and hear, and expect in reality TV. This is known as the Semic.
Rationale:
This production will be relevant to the target audience because it will have characters of a similar age to the people that will be watching. It will also have real life situations which will be in the group house and in the working place. They will have debates over food, cleaning, washing, sleep etc. as a group that are sharing a house would do. It may seem similar to a uni house.
It would be a brilliant idea to be commission because it is something we can relate to as part of the target audience and it gives a real insight to what life’s like on opposite ends of the spectrum for the upper class and for the lower class individuals.
The product is similar to the current reality TV shows that are on at the minute because we have the typical love/hate drama and the mixture of work life and personal life which is the same as ‘made in Chelsea’ and the ‘only way is Essex’
Feasibility:
The production will be a workable project because it will be changing in every series. This means that will be changing the characters after the first series in finished. However whilst we are filming the project it will be in a Warwickshire location which is local for everyone and not too far away from their homes. There will be 16 of them and 8 of them will be upper class and the other 8 will be of the lower class – of theses 16, 8 of them will be men and the other half will be women. They will be put in pairs (one lower class with one upper class) and this will be their pair for the rest of the week until it gets shuffled around.
There will be limited access to family and friends for the group and they will be given one indoor house phone that they can use, however only up to once per night.
The pairs will be set a task to do in their allocated jobs every week. They will have to stick in these jobs until the end of the series. They will get paid every 2 weeks and will receive a budget of £250 between the group per week. This will be to buy food and other necessities. When the pairs get paid they will have a budget between them of £31 and can share this evenly to give each other £15.50 if they wish to do so.
If the pairs end up failing their initial task then they will have money taken off their pair’s budget - £5 – this will help the group to live independently and survive on their own. They will be set a new task on every Wednesday and they will need to complete it by the following Wednesday.
As the pairs will be budgeting their own wages as they will be getting paid for the work they do, they will be expected to pay for their own transport as anyone would.
Budget:
The budget will be kept to a minimum with the small/minor costs of transport and the use of specific areas to film. Otherwise it is hoped to spend under £150. The weekly budget will be around £10perperson. Therefore if they need any more money than they can use their wages.
Deadlines:
The 2 minute preview of the show may be shot/filmed over a 2-3 day period. The edits, cuts and other changes that would be made to the filmed clips should be made by 25th January 2013
