Evaluation

Evaluation

Our production was called Reality Shock, it is a show about putting two different classes in one house ( upper and working class students) the show was to allow others to see how different classes cope in each others jobs ie working as bin men or working in very successful company's. The show was trying to be similar to 'The Only Way Is Essex' and 'Made In Chelsea' with a bit of 'Big Brother to it as the groups of people would live in one big house and have to budget on things ie on luxuries and food.
Our product was fairly successful, our intentions changed a lot through out the making of Reality Shock as our ideas were far to extreme and expensive to put into our production.
we did fufill our intentions but with a few minor changes along the way.
We were given the choice between structured reality, soaps, romcoms or a fly on the wall documentary. Our production had to be a pre-watershed production, after choosing which groups we wanted to be in, we chose to creating a reality show. This is because we all mostly watch reality TV.

The genre for our production is structured reality like 'Made In Chelsea' and 'TOWIE' (The Only Way Is Essex) with a bit of big brother in it, our product portrayed different classes workings and upper class 4 from each class and putting them in one big house and each week they swap jobs with each other I.e the working class will work in a very high end company and the upper class will work in low end jobs like bin men etc.
The way we targeted the audience is by looking at other reality shows and found out the target audience for those shows thus making a conclusion of the target audience of 16 - 35 and working class women tend to watch these kinds of reality shows.
The issues raised during the production was that cast members did not show up so. Had to improvise most of the time, our group didn't exactly get along either so it was quite difficult to get in contact with each other to get things done on time. We did eventually get over our differences with in the group and get the filming and everything done on time.
Our website and other interactive media on the Internet went well and gave us a lot of help with feedback from audiences as we created facebook posts like a questionnaire for people to answer to help us outline what will work best  in our show and what people would like to see on TV.
If we did this again i would have made sure we were more organised and planed the cast better, also location would have been found and would actually fit the style of show we were trying to shoot as it didn't really fit in to the style we had in mind.
The issues that the show raises are how people are stuck on stereotyping classes as we think some upper class people are all stuck up and don't care about others but themselves and their money and working class people are tacky and chavs which is not the situation as these stereotypes are made, the show tries to explain to people and show people how others cope out of their comfort zone sharing a space with people they don't know and having to budget and rashen with food and work in places they never thought they would have to work.
The third media platform would be in magazines or posters , flyer's and billboards to allow everyone to know the show and, when its on and what channels, and what time the show will be on at, also possible details about if its on catch up TV or not for those who may miss the show at the time its on at.

institutional context

- The ownership of  "The Only Way Is Essex" is Lime Pictures

- E4 , More 4 , Film 4 and 4Music and all subsideries of Channel 4.
-A synergy of channel 4 is that their website works with their TV shows to promote their film channels, and games for your phone
- Channel 4 has converged TV and the internet together such as E4 on TV and
- Channel 4 is a conglomerate because they have the subsidiaries that branch off them, these are all well know and a few of them are: E4, Film4, 4Music etc. This essentially means that Channel 4 focus on cross media ownership - which means that  they start to focus on number of media outlets.
- Channel 4 is a publicly owned company and this means that it is a commercially funded public service broadcaster

intentions

Intentions

from my research i have found out that the target audience for 'TOWIE' and 'Made In Chelsea' Is working class women as well as ages from 16 - 35, i have found out that in reality TV shows there is a lot of drama between the girls and in the relationships on the show. the shows tend to start off happy and end on a dramatic cliffhanger to then continue with the next episode the week after. The show preview will be between 2 - 3 minutes long. The show will also be broudcast on TV before 10pm at night and the show will last up to 30 - 45 minutes on a Thursday night once a week.

I intend to crate a website , facebook page and twitter page all to allow audience feedback to help deveop our show and get feed back on what the audience want to see happen in the next episode. Also seeing as the technology has developed and more people seem to respond to social media sights and via the internet making a website is an easier way to allow people to acces the latest gossip about the show and also to show when the next episodes / seiries are on as well as chatch up on demand on the website there will be the latest episodes / series showing on the website so the audience wont miss out on the show.
The website , facebook page and twitter page will be easy to navigate around similar to the way the way channel 4 catch up desplayes their webpage. The website will also consist of the logo of the show and the cast members with a small description aboyt them all. There will also be ways for the audience to interact and ask questions on the page and there will be a constant update of peoples tweets that pop up to the right hand side of the page to show whats the latest trends about the show.

Other ways of presenting the show will be in magazxines and billboards to allow every type of person to know about the show and allow the show to gain more viewers.

The Mini advert

The mini advert

F.A..I.R , i am going to use fair to analise the mini advert.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9UlaKOIdZg

F = Form,
A= Audience
I  = Institutions
R = Representation

Form -We can tell that this is an advertisement for the mini clubman and not just a clip showing a car because each of the cars seems to be doing tricks - one after the other. the Genre, it comes across as a bit action based with the cars jumping all over the highway doing tricks, and a bit thriller because it puts you on edge as your expecting the cars to crash.

Audience - The audience it aimed at men and women but mainly men aged from 18 - 40 years.

Institutions -this can refer to the specific type of institutions this is youtube and how its part of google.  Youtube is viral and therefore, it can reach everyone in most countries.

Representation - is the way the clip is represented to the audience, the way the clip is shown is that the cars do tricks almost implying that if you buy this car it may do tricks like this.

Group Treatment

Treatment for the reality show ‘Reality shock’ - Lets mix it up

Genre:
Reality TV
Logline:
Let’s think of made in Chelsea, Vs Geordie shore, with t a little bit of switch – American life swap programme.

Synopsis:
A reality show where good meets bad and poor meets rich, we’ll be throwing in task and chores – yes ladies and gents, this is a reality shock.

Format:
We will be using a Nikon D3100, to shoot the 2 -3 minute preview of our programme. The production would be aired as an advert initially to give our target audience a taste of what our programme is based on and what it might be like.  We would be showing the best parts of the show that we would have already pre filmed. This will engage them and hopefully encourage them to watch the show.

We will also be producing a 3 page fan site which will have all of the basic information of the show, who they can expect to see on the show (character list) the times and channel its appearing on and the initial start date of the show. The three page fan site will shoe our professionalism as a production company and the effort added to create the whole text.

We will also make a facebook and twitter page, for the show which may also be used a fan page so that the people that are tuning can keep up with the latest tasks or gossip going on in the house.

Estimated duration:
The duration of our programme is going to be 45 minutes. Within the 45 minutes there will be exactly 30 minutes of the reality show and three 5 minutes breaks during. The show will be aired on E4 on a Wednesday night at 8pm and on a Saturday night and 8pm. Theses specific time slots have been chosen initially because whilst some of the popular reality programmes are over for this season we shall take their place and ‘fill in the gap’ as it were.

Intended audience:
Our target audience seems to people that are ages 16 – 30 and are mostly women. Therefore with this evidence that was collated together from our primary research, we are aiming to attract more women of this specific age range. Our data also showed that there would be a high majority of students that watched our type of reality show there for we need to keep it appealing for the varied ages within our target audience.

Style:
We are aiming to create a humorous type of reality show, but also hard-hitting and something to take seriously as these situations do happen in the real word. We are getting influence from current and previous reality TV shows such as the only way is Essex and made in Chelsea, Geordie shore, switch and many more. We have take a couple of ideas from each to put into our reality show and the reason for this is because, these are the stereo typed type of things we do see and hear, and expect in reality TV.  This is known as the Semic.

Rationale:
This production will be relevant to the target audience because it will have characters of a similar age to the people that will be watching. It will also have real life situations which will be in the group house and in the working place. They will have debates over food, cleaning, washing, sleep etc. as a group that are sharing a house would do. It may seem similar to a uni house.

It would be a brilliant idea to be commission because it is something we can relate to as part of the target audience and it gives a real insight to what life’s like on opposite ends of the spectrum for the upper class and for the lower class individuals.

The product is similar to the current reality TV shows that are on at the minute because we have the typical love/hate drama and the mixture of work life and personal life which is the same as ‘made in Chelsea’ and the ‘only way is Essex’

Feasibility:
The production will be a workable project because it will be changing in every series. This means that will be changing the characters after the first series in finished. However whilst we are filming the project it will be in a Warwickshire location which is local for everyone and not too far away from their homes. There will  be 16 of them and 8 of them will be upper class and the other 8 will be of the lower class – of theses 16, 8 of them will be men and the other half will be women. They will be put in pairs (one lower class with one upper class) and this will be their pair for the rest of the week until it gets shuffled around.

There will be limited access to family and friends for the group and they will be given one indoor house phone that they can use, however only up to once per night.

The pairs will be set a task to do in their allocated jobs every week. They will have to stick in these jobs until the end of the series. They will get paid every 2 weeks and will receive a budget of £250 between the group per week. This will be to buy food and other necessities. When the pairs get paid they will have a budget between them of £31 and can share this evenly to give each other £15.50 if they wish to do so.

If the pairs end up failing their initial task then they will have money taken off their pair’s budget - £5 – this will help the group to live independently and survive on their own.  They will be set a new task on every Wednesday and they will need to complete it by the following Wednesday.

As the pairs will be budgeting their own wages as they will be getting paid for the work they do, they will be expected to pay for their own transport as anyone would.

Budget:
The budget will be kept to a minimum with the small/minor costs of transport and the use of specific areas to film. Otherwise it is hoped to spend under £150. The weekly budget will be around £10perperson. Therefore if they need any more money than they can use their wages.
Deadlines:
The 2 minute preview of the show may be shot/filmed over a 2-3 day period. The edits, cuts and other changes that would be made to the filmed clips should be made by 25th January 2013

  • Home Page- shows four clear links as well as a the main purple logo around all the information provided about the show and the characters along with a video of thee most resent episode, what i find most helpful about the website is that below the log in the top left of the website i says "TOWIE will return soon" telling viewers that the current series has finished.

The website also allows social networkers to get involved with the show by using facebook , twitter and telling the audience to download the app to their smartphones to allow them to interact with the show allowing the show to become more popular and make more money.

  • Episodes: the episode consist of the latest series of TOWIE rather than showing all series of towie, it allows viewers to keep up to date with the latest drama in the series. The layout of the episode link helps to show not just the latest series but the latest highlights too again allowing viewers to keep up to date with the latest news.

  • The latest shows all the latest news like videos the cast has made by themselves and uploaded to the site for entertainment for the viewers to still watch a bit of whats happening behind the scenes whilst they wait for the next series to be on.

  • Towie faces this link on the website allows viewers to see all of the cast on the show, there are photos of each and everyone of the cast in TOWIE with a small description underneath each photos telling you a little about the person in the photo like this (below)
"TOWIE's very own Pope. She's like the real Pope, just with better accessories and the ability to DJ"
(This is a small description about 'Lauren Pope' one of the cast members on TOWIE)

  • scheduled is a link to the left side of the website which allows you to keep up to date on when the next show will be cast on TV which keeps the viewers up to date on whats happening.

  • About the show this is again a small link to the left handside of the website which gives you a small insight to what the show is about

'Get a spray tan, put on your tightest clothes and be reem as we return with some more diamante-clad drama from everyone's favourite county'

(above is part of the dissipation given about the show for viewers to understand TOWIE)
